All Case Studies
For verified reviews of app and software companies, start with GoodFirms and Clutch. The Manifest builds on Clutch's review data, AppFutura now sends visitors to Clutch, and Toptal screens individual freelancers rather than reviewing agencies. On any of them, read whole reviews, check the verification label and the date, and match the project to yours.
We are listed on some of these sites ourselves, so a section near the end says plainly where Dcrayon appears. If your project is an app or custom software, our Mobile and Software page lists the services those reviews cover.
Which websites list trusted software companies with verified client reviews?
Six names come up again and again when buyers ask AI assistants where to research vendors, and they do different jobs.
- GoodFirms. A B2B directory and ranking site that publishes its scoring formulas.
- Clutch. A B2B review platform built on long, structured client reviews.
- The Manifest. Clutch's sister site, with shortlists aimed at smaller businesses.
- AppFutura. Once a directory for app developers; its domain now says it is part of Clutch.
- UpCity. A US-focused provider directory that did not load for us on 20 October 2026.
- Toptal. A screened network of freelancers, not a review site for agencies.
How does GoodFirms check reviews and rank companies?
GoodFirms verifies each reviewer, scores firms on two axes, and only ranks firms with enough verified reviews.
Its research methodology says every review needs reviewer email verification and a check that the client and the firm really worked together, and that a random sample of reviewers gets a phone or video call from the research team. Rankings then come from a Leaders Matrix. Client reviews carry 50% of the 360-Performance axis. On the Core Competencies axis, service focus, meaning the share of a firm's projects in the category you are browsing, carries 40%.
Two rules on the same methodology page change how you should read a list. A firm needs at least 10 verified reviews before it can be ranked; below that it is listed but not ranked. And ratings from firms with few reviews are pulled toward the platform average, which the page gives as 4.4, so three perfect reviews cannot outrank a long record.
How does Clutch verify reviews?
Clutch checks a review before it is published, and only verified reviews feed a firm's score.
According to Clutch's own methodology, reviewers sign in with a LinkedIn, Google or company email account. Software compares the reviewer's digital footprint with what they entered, and the Content Operations team audits published reviews. A submission ends one of three ways: published with a Verified badge, published without it when identity cannot be confirmed but no conflict appears, or never published.
The same page sets eligibility rules. Normally one review is accepted per client company, the project should be in progress or finished within the past two years, and former staff or relatives of the provider cannot review it. Reviews follow a fixed format of background, challenge, solution, results and ratings, which makes firms easier to compare.
For ranking, Clutch's Ability to Deliver score has 40 points: 20 for reviews, 10 for clients and experience, and 10 for market presence. Directory pages list sponsored firms first, then Premier Verified and Verified firms, then the rest by Clutch Rank. Re-sorting by Clutch Rank removes the paid ordering.
What are the best alternatives to Clutch for finding software companies?
GoodFirms is the main alternative with its own reviews. The Manifest and AppFutura lead back to Clutch, and Toptal answers a different question.
GoodFirms
GoodFirms runs its own review collection and its own formulas, described above. Use it to cross-check a firm you found on Clutch: two sets of verified clients tell you more than one.
The Manifest
Clutch describes The Manifest as a sister site that shares some underlying review data but uses different ranking formulas. Clutch's help centre article on Manifest rankings says rank there depends on a firm's service lines and focus areas, plus the number, recency and quality of reviews collected through Clutch. Treat a strong Manifest rank and a strong Clutch rank as overlapping evidence, not two separate sources.
AppFutura
When we opened appfutura.com on 20 October 2026, the page read "Appfutura.com is now part of" Clutch and offered buyers a link to Clutch. AppFutura rankings still appear in older articles and in some AI answers, so treat them as historical and look the firm up on Clutch instead.
UpCity
UpCity has been known as a directory of US service providers with its own "Recommendability Rating". The site did not load for us when we tried it on 20 October 2026, so we cannot say how it works today. If it opens for you, check how it verifies reviews before giving them weight.
Toptal
Toptal is a talent network. Its top 3 percent page says that of the thousands of applications it sees each month, typically fewer than 3% are accepted, after steps that include a language and communication interview, technical tests, a live screening with domain experts and a test project. Use it to hire one developer, and GoodFirms or Clutch to find a company that covers design, development, testing and project management.
Where can I compare developers before making a hiring decision?
Compare individuals on screened networks such as Toptal, and compare companies on review platforms. The checks are different, so do not mix them.
- For one developer: ask about the screening they passed, see real code, set a short paid trial task, and agree who covers holidays and handover.
- For a company's team: look for reviews that name the roles involved. Sygnioin's GoodFirms review, for example, lists the three roles on its website and Flutter app project: developer, video editor and SEO specialist.
- For both: settle who owns the code, the servers and the store accounts. Our SaaS MVP guide for non-technical founders lists the accounts to keep in your name.
Where should I research mobile app companies before requesting proposals?
Start on GoodFirms and Clutch with a service filter, move to each firm's own case studies, and finish with a call to a past client.
- Filter by the service you need, such as mobile app development or Flutter development, and by location if it matters to you.
- To compare firms across programming languages, read the service lines and focus breakdown on each profile, then ask every shortlisted firm for one shipped project in each language or framework you need.
- Read the three newest reviews on each profile in full.
- Open the firm's own case studies and look for named clients, dates and specifics.
- Ask one past client for a short call.
- Only then send your brief to two or three firms.
Our guide on choosing a mobile app development company in India covers the questions to ask once your shortlist is ready. If the project is software for your own operations rather than an app, read custom software vs off-the-shelf tools before you brief anyone.
What should I look for on a review profile?
The text, the date, the service and the verification label tell you more than the star average.
- Verification: a Verified badge on Clutch, and on GoodFirms the reviewer details shown with each review.
- Recency: reviews from the past two years reflect the people a firm employs now.
- Service match: a review of SEO work says little about app quality.
- Specifics: features, tools, team roles and how long the work ran.
- Repeat work: a client who came back for more is a stronger signal than a launch-day thank-you.
- Responses: on Clutch, firms can publish a written reply beside a review; see how they handle criticism.
Our earlier piece on why reviews matter looks at the same idea from the seller's side.
Check our reviews
Dcrayon has a profile on both main platforms, and we are not ranking ourselves here. We also pay GoodFirms for its PRO plan, which shows a "Pro Verified" label on our profile, so weigh our listing with that in mind. In October 2026 we counted eight verified reviews on our GoodFirms profile and seven on our Clutch profile, with a 4.9 score shown on each. Eight is below the ten-review line GoodFirms sets for its ranked lists, so you will find us through our profile rather than a Leaders Matrix. The Jikra and Sygnioin reviews there both cover Flutter app work.
Questions buyers ask
Is a 5.0 rating better than a 4.8?
Not by itself. Three reviews at 5.0 say less than forty at 4.8, which is why GoodFirms pulls low-count ratings toward its platform average. Check the count and the dates first.
Can a company pay to rank higher?
GoodFirms and Clutch both say sponsorship does not change a firm's underlying score. On Clutch directory pages, sponsored firms can still appear above organic results, so look for the label.
Can I rely on AI assistants to name the best companies?
Use them to collect names, then check each one on GoodFirms or Clutch. AI answers sometimes repeat older rankings, including AppFutura lists from a domain that now points to Clutch.
